| Some
differences between the A.C.H.H. course and conventional courses:
| A.C.H.H. Course
| Conventional Courses |
Low joining fee, moderate assessment fee. Money thus paid on the basis
of fee-for-service, plus tutors have an incentive to mark early and ensure the
student's continuing interest.
| High
joining fee, nil or low assessment fee. money paid early to take advantage of
students who do not complete the course. Tutors have little immediate incentive
to keep the student's interest once money has been paid. |
Fee structure:$250.00 joining fee, plus $173.00 book fee (this is reduced if you have some of the books), plus following Tutorial assessment fees over 2 - 4 years.
Tut. 1 - 2 $35.00 ea.
Tut. 3 - 5 . $40.00 ea..
Tut. 6 - 12 $45.00 ea.
Tut. 13 - 20 $50.00 ea.
Tut. AI -A5 $50.00 ea.
2 Essays & cases $45.00 ea. (3 only)
Fees for attendance at 3-day Intensive, approx. $300.00
Case Taking (clinical) Intensives will be required, subject to clinical experience. Cost will be $500.00 per intensive. 2 or 3 intensives will be required subject to AROH requirements
The total homoeopathic module thus costs less than $2,000.00, plus the clinical Intensives if required.
|
$800.00 - $1,200.00 fee up front or after a few months. Most courses are considerably more expensive than the ACHH course, without teaching any additional material. These well known courses cost $4,500.00 or more, just for the homoeopathic module.
|
Fewer notes given at start or during the course. Students are guided to produce their own notes, which are then assessed. Tutorial preparation therefore ensures that students have completed a large amount of work, and have not merely extracted and reproduced information from existing notes. Extensive case work will be undertaken. |
Usually students are given notes and references either at the start or during the early stages of the course. Most tutorial questions can be answered from these notes. This can lead to "skimming" of notes to answer questions, with little effective learning. Most courses have little case work.
| At the end of the course, students have sets of notes relating to Materia Medica, acute prescribing, as well as special topics. Because the student has written most of these notes, they are meaningful and have been fully learned. Our course covers the standards set by the Australian Register of Homoeopaths (AROH). Full professional membership of AROH, and subsequent membership in AHA, is granted to those of our graduates who pass the AROH entrance exam. |
The student has a comprehensive set of notes, which may or may not have been thoroughly learned, and which may or may not be written in a manner to which the student relates. In some courses different aspects of Homoeopathy are relatively neglected. Thus the student does not finish the course as a balanced practitioner. Some correspondence courses cover only partially the comprehensive standards set by the AROH and AHA.

Some "hands-on" study period must be completed before a Diploma can be awarded. One and three day intensives are held in some States each year, and all students are welcome to attend if they wish. Students are eligible to become student members of ATMS and AHA and may attend workshops and conferences in all States. Student clinics are now available in some States. Those Students who have not been able to attend the above courses may need to attend a hands-on periods at the completion of their Tutorials. |
A few Courses offer or require a hands-on
period for students. | | An Advanced Diploma will be awarded only to those students who have, in addition to their Homoeopathic studies, also satisfactorily completed an acceptable course in basic medical sciences. Otherwise a Certificate of Completion will be awarded. This ensures that your Advanced Diploma signifies the highest possible standard and will be able to be recognised by Professional Organisations. Our Advanced Diploma entitles you to Professional membership of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society, Australia 's largest association of professional Natural Therapists. |
Observance of this essential professional requirement varies between courses. All formerly accredited courses require study in basic medical sciences.
This course is rated at 1,500 hours (2,200 including health sciences), which means it is more comprehensive than other courses which call themselves "advance&' or "Postgraduate". You need to look at the content, not the title, to properly compare different courses. You also need to carefully check whether "accreditation' is with a reputable local association. |
This course is not an easy one. We believe that it is the most comprehensive correspondence course offered in Australia and aims to leave the student as well prepared as one who has attended classes. it has an extensive practical content which aims to give each student real case taking, analytical and prescribing experience. |
Many courses only cover basic philosophy and keynote prescribing for major body systems/diseases. Miasmic and constitutional prescribing are rarely covered in great depth. |
| Students are able to contact the author of the course for guidance, and draw on his considerable practical and academic experience. |
Some course
employ recently qualified tutors or are prepared overseas.

Answers to some commonly asked questions:
1. You may begin the course at the time which suits you best, i.e. now or next year.
2. There is no formal timetable for the return of the tutorials. They are to be completed at your own pace. However, we do expect to return at least three tutorials per year. Thus the course is likely to take between 2 - 4 years depending on the time you are able to give to it.
3. We have established case study groups in most States since 1993. Isaac Golden has personally conducted intensives in Victoria , Tasmania , ACT., NSW., QLD. and WA.
4. You may commence your Homoeopathic studies before commencing Health Science, or at the same time. However, an Advanced Diploma cannot be awarded until both are completed.
5. At the moment, Homoeopaths are not registered by Government. Many changes may occur over the coming years. We can guarantee that our standards will be the highest possible, but we cannot guarantee what Governments may require of our profession. However graduates may now upgrade to a University Degree in Hom.
6. This course has been updated to accommodate the new national competency standards in Homoeopathy.
7. Tutorials may be submitted by post or email. We also have an internet chat room for students to use.
